Wellness Visits Q & A
What is a well-woman exam and why is it important?
We recommend women have a wellness, or well-woman exam, annually.
This allows us to monitor your health and detect changes or developing conditions so they can be treated as early as possible. In addition, these visits provide patients an opportunity to check in with their physician about any health concerns, from birth control to vaginal dryness. Women need to make time to take of themselves, as well as they do their loved ones. Make sure to book your appointment at River Place OB-GYN. It is an investment of your time into your own health and well being.
What specifically will my well-woman visit entail?
The visit will entail a complete pelvic exam of your reproductive organs, a breast exam and, if appropriate, a Pap smear. We will offer appropriate screening labs and immunizations depending on your individual needs.
Do I still need a wellness exam if I’m past menopause?
Yes. A wellness exam is important in providing preventative care and catching problems in their earliest, most treatable stage. Post menopausal women are at an increased risk of heart disease and osteoporosis. It’s important to be screened and, if necessary, be treated for these conditions. A well-woman exam also provides an opportunity to discuss any intimate, even embarrassing matters that have arisen, such as like vaginal dryness or lack of sexual desire. Regular exams help build a trusting relationship between doctor and patient.
